Action Global Communications assumed sole responsibility for ‘Empowerment of Women in Japan’ conference, occurring over a month in Tokyo 2016. The conference was attended by senior politicians from the EU, Japan’s Diet and representatives from the private sector, discussing how best to orient policy in such a way that it facilitates economic parity for the genders in Japan and abroad.
During the conference, a comparative report on the economic empowerment of women in the EU and Japan was presented. A key finding was the prevalence of part-time jobs for women in Japan, and the lack of women in managerial and leadership positions. In Japan, women make up only 7% of senior managerial positions, compared to 24% in Europe, while less than 50% of women in Japan work full-time.
Action Global Communications was tasked for media relations and event support services, in order to ensure the agenda received the requisite exposure. With the aid of a successful media relations campaign by Action and local affiliates, some 20 media outlets attended the conference, including Reuters, NHK and The Japan Times. These efforts were helped along by Action’s development of the conference’s visual identity and critically, Action developed the project’s bilingual website, cultivating the public interest required to achieve social change.
